Moss can be a common nuisance in lawns, creating unsightly patches and competing with grass for essential nutrients. Many moss species grow well in shady damp conditions they like acidic compacted or waterlogged soil.

Mowd have a solution, with our Iron Sward moss treatment (12%Fe + 5% Mg). Here is how our product can help treat and prevent moss whilst promoting a healthier greener lawn.
Effective Moss Control
Iron sulphate is a powerful tool in the fight against moss. When applied to a lawn, the product reacts with the moss, causing it to go black and die off. The 12% iron (Fe) in our formulation is particularly effective as it creates an environment that is inhospitable too moss growth. Moss thrives in acidic, low-nutrient, or poorly-drained soil. Iron sulphate works by lowering the pH of the soil which disrupts the conditions in which moss needs to flourish.
Promotes Healthier Grass Growth
One of the major advantages of using our Iron Sward product is that not only does it target moss but it also benefits the grass. Iron is an essential micronutrient for grass, playing a crucial role in chlorophyll production and overall plant health. When applied to your lawn, iron sulphate can promote deeper green colouring, making your lawn look lush and vibrant.
Magnesium is an essential nutrient in photosynthesis, but also supports plant growth and strengthening the sward of the grass. Iron Sulphate helps lower the pH of the soil, making it less acidic. This process helps to balance the soil, allowing the grass to take up more nutrients more effectively. Over time, regular use of iron sulphate can help improve soil structure, breaking down compact areas and promoting better water drainage, reducing the likelihood of moss growth in the future.
As Iron Sulphate is absorbed into the soil, it ensures that the iron is available to grass roots, stimulating growth and making your lawn less susceptible to future moss invasions.
Easy to apply
Iron Sulphate products are easy to apply as a granular or liquid treatment. Granular products should be spread using a broadcast spreaders, whilst liquid products can be applied with a sprayer. When spreading iron fertilisers, it is important to be aware that if it is left on patios and hard surfaces it can cause staining so it is best to sweep off hard surfaces straight away. Granular products should be applied in dry conditions and watered in well after application (or applied before rain is forecast).
