5 steps to Applying Mowd Equinox Lawn Fertiliser Like a Pro

Step 1: Receive Your Lawn Fertiliser

So, you've received your lawn care subscription and now it's time to put down the fertiliser. It's important to follow these five simple steps to ensure you apply the lawn fertiliser correctly. The first step is to receive your fertiliser along with the  infographic and written instructions on how to apply it. It's dead simple!

Step 2: Assess Ground and Weather Conditions

Before applying the fertiliser, aseMowd fertiliser spreading infographicss your ground conditions and the weather. If you're still expecting frosts, it's best to hold off on applying the fertiliser, especially in early spring. However, a little bit of rainfall is beneficial as it helps wash the granular fertiliser into the soil. Just make sure not to apply it to ground that has just been rained on. Wait for a slightly dry spell.

Step 3: Safety Precautions

While there are no specific safety requirements on the packaging, it's always recommended to wear gloves and goggles when handling fertiliser. When you're ready to apply it, decant the fertiliser into a hopper outside or in a well-ventilated area. Once you've finished, remember to wash your hands thoroughly before eating or smoking. Safety first! Also, keep the kids and pets off the lawn until you've had a chance to water it in. This is especially important if you're using a weed and feed product like Turf Rise, as the iron element can cause staining on your patio.

Step 4: Applying the Fertiliser

Each pack of fertiliser you've received is 1 kg, and we've sent you the exact amount you need for your entire lawn. In this example garden, we need to apply 5 kg. Here's how to do it:

  1. Pour 2 and a half kg (or 2 and a half bags) of fertiliser into your spreader hopper.
  2. Spread the fertiliser evenly over the entire garden, moving in one direction.
  3. Put the remaining 2 and a half kg into the hopper.
  4. Spread the fertiliser again, this time moving in the opposite direction.

It's best practice to spread the fertiliser in two different directions for even coverage. Set your spreader to the appropriate setting (in this example, number two). Walk at a comfortable pace to ensure even distribution.

It's important to note that you should not use a drop spreader typically used for topsoil and seed. This type of spreader will drop the fertiliser straight down, increasing the risk of burning your turf.

Step 5: Water In the Fertiliser

After spreading the fertiliser, it's time to water it in. If you're not expecting rain within the next 24-48 hours, it's best to use a sprinkler and thoroughly water the lawn. However, if rain is in the forecast, that should be sufficient to wash the fertiliser into the soil.
